Greenslopes State School has been providing high quality education for generations of families in our local area since 1890.
The school is deeply immersed in an ethos that supports student participation and engagement across a variety of academic, sporting and cultural domains within a positive and supportive environment.
In 2018, the school implemented a dedicated arts program for each class from Prep to Year Six. This program focuses on the delivery of the Drama, Dance and Visual Arts components of The Arts Curriculum. In addition the students have a Music specialist and an Instrumental Music program for Strings instruments.
Students have participated in a variety of sporting competitions with students representing, not just the school and district but at the Regional Level as well. The school competes regularly with other schools in the Mt Gravatt sports cluster in addition to the local BUDGIE Cup, an annual competition between Buranda State School, Dutton Park State School and East Brisbane State School.
The school community works to support student learning in a positive and caring manner. The Bridge Builders program sees our selected students in Years 5 and 6, trained to help identify possible disputes and conflicts in the playground, and intervene in a deliberately constructive and positive manner to resolve these issues. These 'Bridge Builders' are highly visible in the playgrounds across all areas of our school, and this is just one example of how the community at Greenslopes State School not only encourages student leadership but also values and fosters a sense of a positive well-being within every student.
In addition to the Bridge Builders program, the school has implemented the 'Second Step' Social Emotional Learning program. Second Step provides the school with a mechanism for the whole school instruction of Social Emotional Learning. It is an explict, easy to use program that has been peer reviewed from the Collaborative for Social and Academic Learning (CASEL). Students from Prep to Year Six engage in weekly lessons building their key understandings of 21st century learning by teaching students to develop their abilities to:
- manage emotions
- have empathy
- solve problems
Over the last years, the school has grown in size, yet continues to maintain its inclusive and community feel by embracing diversity within.
