Learning Support
Our school has access to a Guidance Officer, Speech Language Pathologist, Support Teacher Literacy and Numeracy and Advisory Visiting Teachers. All of the above services are free to state school students through a referral process. All referrals whether by a parent, the class teacher or the principal are prioritised through the school’s Special Needs Support Group in consultation with support service personnel and parents. Our classroom teachers’ planning and practice reflects the needs of individual students according to their individual strengths and nominated areas for improvement. Our class groupings consist of single and some composite year levels. Class placement takes careful account of the needs of individual students.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
The ESL program at Greenslopes State School helps support students in their first years of learning English. Three days per fortnight, an ESL teacher is at the school, working with small groups of students and giving advisory support to classroom teachers. Students in the program develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through varied and meaningful language activities. In addition, teacher aides work with newly arrived students to help solidify basic skills.
