Our school community rallied to support Oonoonba State School which was heavily damaged during recent floods.
Oonoonba State School, in Townsville, is still closed whilst repairs are being made to the school after the flooding in January/February. The students are being sent to two other nearby schools, whilst the repairs are taking place.
Our school's Active Travel Team, led by Mrs Caldwell-Cook, led our fundrasing efforts.
Our cause generated much interest in the wider community with the Greenslopes Baptist Church able to raise over $800 to support our efforts.
In addition, we held a 'footy boot' drive to ensure students and families from Oonoonba State School could get some footy boots to help get them back into playing sports, without having to put too much financial pressure on families to fund new boots for their kids. Albany Creek Junior Rugby club also pitched in with some gear to help out.
In total we raised $1 668.95 for Oonoonba State School and over 40 pairs of boots. A big thank you to Mrs Willis and her husband who is going to drop the boots off to Oonoonba on his next trip to Townsville.
It is always great to see our community get behind those in need. I thank everyone for their efforts and I am sure the students of Oonoonba will benefit from what we have collectively achieved.
